Books include <i>Blood Ground: Colonialism, Missions and the Contest for Christianity in\u00a0the Eastern Cape and Britain, 1799-1853 <\/i>\u00a0and Gwyn Campbell and Elizabeth Elbourne (eds.), <i>Sex, Power and Slavery<\/i>. \u00a0My current book project is looking at family, colonialism and relationships between settlers, states and Indigenous peoples in the British white settler empire from the late eighteenth to mid nineteenth centuries through a study of three overlapping family networks.\u00a0 I am also broadly\u00a0interested in gender and religion and in\u00a0the workings of historical memory, including the\u00a0memory and contemporary legacies\u00a0of colonialism. \u00a0Past work has included a five year stint as Joint Editor in Chief (with Brian Cowan) of the <i>Journal of British Studies<\/i>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>For<em> Sites of Memory<\/em> workshop participants\u00a0\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/rpm.religion.utoronto.ca\/index.php\/elizabeth-elbourne-working-essay\/\">read more<\/a> (password protected)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Elizabeth Elbourne McGill University I am an associate professor of history in the Department of History and Classical Studies, McGill.
